Define This..

Today I overheard a conversation about whether graffiti should be considered art or simple vandalism turned legal...
The dictionary defines the word Graffiti as "writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in public"
Personally, I believe graffiti to be just another outlet for a creative mind to express itself, just like all other forms of art. Though it may be easily covered with a simple coat of paint and not cherished in a historical art museum, many still see graffiti as an unusual and valuable form of art.
What do you think?

Here are a few images of graffiti during Art Basel weekend.

And Justice For All..

Cuban exile and ex CIA agent, Luis Posada Carriles has been accused of terrorism by the governments of Cuba and Venezuela. These governments mark him as the mastermind behind the terrorist attack of the Cubana flight 455 in 1976, where two time bombs were used to destroy the plane off the coast of Barbados. As a result of the attack, 73 innocent passengers were killed.
In 1997, a wave of bomb attacks against hotels takes place in Havana, killing an Italian tourist and wounding several other innocents. When arrested, the perpetrators of the blasts (all Central American citizens who went to Cuba as tourists) admit to have acted for financial gains following direct orders from Posada Carriles. The terrorist described with great detail how they were recruited and instructed on how to manipulate the time bombs used in the Havana attacks by Posada Carriles himself.
The actuality that Posada Carriles was the orchestrator of these terrorist attacks is a fact publicly acknowledged by him the following year in an interview published by the The New York Times (July1998).
On May 3, 2007, it was revealed that FBI agents traveled to Cuba in 2006 as part of an investigation about the role of Posada in the terrorist attacks of Havana. New documents released by the FBI indicate the authorship of Posada in this attack and in other terrorist plots.
Today, in an anti-terrorist Nation, the trial of Posada Carriles continued in El Paso, Texas where he is being tried for perjury  (immigration causes) and not terrorism. The lead prosecutor Timothy Reardon claims he would present sufficient incriminating evidence which will also prove Posada's involvement in the terrorist attacks.
I can not help but to think, how much could a maximum sentence of five years  really matter after enjoying a lifetime of freedom without being indicted for the crimes you've committed? Seems like a small price to pay.
Most of us oppose communism as it has a detrimental effects on populations and continually violates human rights, but justice should be met over all. It is not just for innocent people to die over any cause! The attempts to bring down a communist regime does not excuse terrorism. Those who sacrifice innocent human lives to achieve their purposes should abide the consequences of their acts.

Miami: STAR-STUDDED NYE + WELCOME 2011!

New Year's Eve in Miami was like a star-studded red carpet that led to the main event; the welcoming of 2011! If you had lots of money to fritter away and the desire to celebrate NYE the right way, then Miami was the place to be. Not only did the city have probably the best weather in the country, an exceedingly pleasant 64 degrees, but it was also chosen by some of the hottest artist as the "it" place to spend their NYE. Whether one was looking to party like a rockstar on the last day of 2010 or simply dine out in style, there was quite an extensive list of things to do in Miami.
If you wanted to sing your heart away to pop mega star Usher, then downtown Miami's AAA arena was the place to be last night! Breakthrough Hip Hop star of the year "Drake" took down the stylish W South Beach Hotel. I don't know if his show was "the fuc**ing best" but judging from the pictures it did seem like lots of fun. A little further up Collins avenue Jamie Foxx's distinctive voice was well heard at LIV (the Fountainebleu's modish nightclub).  Also at the Fountainebleu, but spinning poolside was the incomparable Dutch musical sensation DJ Tiesto, this was probably the priciest show with tickets ranging from $3,500- to $25,000!
While there were many to choose from, if dining out was in your plans the "New Year's Eve with sophistication" at STK and  "New Year's Eve Dinner" at the Forge were both excellent options.
Parties like "Bloody Mary NYE" at The Delano, and "Don't Tell my Booker" at Set nightclub seemed promising, as well as, seaside performances in Ocean drive by Leona Lewis and Natasha Bedingfiled.
Overall, there were NYE celebrations all over the city and I'm sure it was an unforgettable night for all of those who chose to go out but.... THAT'S SO LAST YEAR!

I am looking forward to the upcoming 2011 events!
BRING ON THE ARTS:
-Beginning the year righteously The Beux Arts Festival of Art will take place from January 8 to the 9th at the Lowe Art Museum in the University of Miami. The event  is dedicated to the Art of the United States, and will gather everything from art lovers to students, and the artists themselves.

-February marks the third annual Artopia presented by Miami International Film Festival. This year it  promises to bring an unforgettable cultural occurrence filled with music, art, fashion, and film. This will be my first year attending, so it is definitely a must see!

Joy and Courage for the New Year!

:)
